Foo Fighters

  • Seattle based rock band, formed in 1994. Initially, there was only one member – Dave Grohl, formerly the drummer for Nirvana, which ended with the death of Kurt Cobain. Other members ultimately were recruited by Grohl to join the band. The classic lineup is Grohl (vocals and guitar), Pat Smear (lead guitar), Chris Shiflett (guitar and backing vocals), Nate Mendel (bass), and Taylor Hawkins (drums/percussion and backing vocals). Hawkins died in 2022 at the age of 50 – he was found with ten different substances in his body at the time of death. Josh Freese replaced Hawkins on drums.
  • The name originates from UFOs that were reported by Allied aircraft pilots during World War II.
  • The group has released ten studio albums from 1995 through 2021. Grammy awards for best rock album have been awarded seven times to Foo Fighters, and they have won a total of 15 Grammy awards.
  • Most of the songs in their portfolio are written collaboratively by all of the members of the band.
  • Their songs are high energy rock & roll, with driving guitar and drums, and vocals that are borderline screaming. This band gives it everything it’s got. We appreciate that!
  • Foo Fighters were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
  • After the death of Hawkins, the band canceled their remaining concerts in the 2022 tour. For several months, they considered how to continue. In December 2022, they announced that they would continue as a band. They released their eleventh studio album, But Here We Are, in 2023. It topped the album charts in the UK, it reached #8 on the Billboard 200, and it reached #1 on the Billboard Top Alternative Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums charts.
  • In 2013, Rolling Stone magazine polled their readers to rank the top 10 Foo Fighter songs. The top results? #3 is Best Of You. #2 is The Pretender. And #1 is Everlong – in a landslide.
