Sara Bareilles

  • Musician, singer and songwriter born in 1979 in Eureka California.
  • She sang in her high school choir and was active in her school theater. In college at UCLA, she joined an a cappella group named Awaken, which released an album and was featured on a compilation CD. She won UCLA’s annual spring student concert competition twice. After graduating, she performed in local clubs in LA, and in 2003, she released 2 demos.
  • Ready to make of career of music, in 2004 Bareilles released her debut album, Careful Confessions, with an independent label. It contained 7 studio tracks, and 4 songs recorded during live performances. This got her exposure with major record labels, and she signed with Epic Records in 2005. She spent the next year writing new music, as well as performing across the U.S. and UK as the opening act of tours from other artists.
  • In 2007, Little Voice was released. A month prior to its release, iTunes featured the song Love Song as its free single of the week. When the album was released, it became the most downloaded album on iTunes for one week, and eventually it reached #7 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Love Song peaked at #4 on the Hot 100 (and #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart), and over 4 million downloads were sold in the U.S. It was nominated for 2 Grammy awards, including Song of the Year.
  • Over the next years, she struggled to write new music, but by 2009 she was recording again, and her next album, Kaleidoscope Heart, was released in 2010. It debuted at #1 on the album chart, and the single King of Anything peaked at #4 on the Adult Contemporary chart, and it led to her third Grammy nomination.
  • An EP, called Once Upon Another Time, was released in 2012, and the following year, the studio album The Blessed Unrest was released. A second single, I Choose You, reached #14 on the Adult Contemporary chart. The album was nominated for a Grammy award for Album of the Year, and Brave also was nominated for a Grammy.

  • In 2019, Bareilles released Amidst the Chaos. The single from the album Saint Honesty won a Grammy award for Best American Roots Performance, her first Grammy win.
  • I like Sara – fun, upbeat pop songs, with a great vocal style, and songwriting from a woman’s point of view. Here is the video to her first hit, Love Song. Super catchy piano-pop song here! And…it’s not a love song. It’s about her struggles to write a song for her record label that they could sell, and her frustration in doing so. Hence, the lyric “…I’m not gonna write you a love song ’cause you asked for it, ’cause you need one….”
