The AWESOME! page has random music stuff that I think is cool. You never know what you will find here!
Disney or studios related to the Walt Disney Company released 114 animated films between 1937 and today, with many more to come. The first full length feature was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937 – it was the first movie ever to have a soundtrack album that was released in conjunction with the movie. Each of these films contain musical compositions, and most include a musical score that is an important contribution to the films. Oscar winning songs from Disney movies total 16 (several were from movies that were not fully animated, like Mary Poppins and The Muppets).
I grew up with Disney in the 60s and 70s, and my kids grew up with Disney in the 90s and 00s. The music was always fabulous. It’s impossible to do, but here is a list of my 5 favorite Disney tunes. I’m sure I could come up with 10 more lists of my favorite 5, and they would all be different. Send me a comment with your favorites!
5. Step In Time from Mary Poppins – 1964
4. Let It Go from Frozen – 2013
3. When You Wish Upon A Star from Pinocchio – 1940
2. Circle of Life from The Lion King – 1994
1. Colors of the Wind from Pocahontas – 1995
In the film, Colors of the Wind was performed by Judy Kuhn. The soundtrack to the film has a version performed by Vanessa Williams, which was released as the lead single from the soundtrack, peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song won an Oscar, a Golden Globe award, and a Grammy award. Here is the video of Williams’ version of the song, as well as Judy Kuhn’s version from the film. Note – I prefer Judy Kuhn’s version – it’s more orchestral, less “cheesy.”
Disney movies and songs are the best!!!
