The MARK’S VINTAGE VINYL page features something from Mark’s collection of recordings from over the years. Most of it is on vinyl – hence the name – though there will be a few entries from his CDs (remember those?).
Sports, by Huey Lewis and the News
- Third studio album by rock band Huey Lewis and the News, released in 1983.
- The album was a breakthrough for the San Francisco-based band, topping the Billboard 200 album chart and selling over 7 million copies in the U.S.
- The album’s videos were wildly popular on MTV, and no doubt fueled the success of the singles. The album had 5 songs released as singles, and the first 4 all broke into the Hot 100 top 10 – Heart and Soul, I Want a New Drug, The Heart of Rock & Roll, and If This Is It.
- Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr. for stealing the melody of I Want a New Drug for Parker’s theme song for the film Ghostbusters. Listen to both – you will hear the similarities. The suit was settled out of court. I Want a New Drug also was picked by Weird Al Yankovic for a parody – Weird Al’s version was I Want a New Duck.
- See my August 13, 2017 post for more information on the band.
- This record is one of the “funnest” records of the 80s. Upbeat, high energy songs – great job by Huey Lewis and the News! Here’s the video to I Want a New Drug. This song is full of hooks and fun – I dare you not to sing along and tap your foot to this early 80s classic!
