Greatest Videos – Beastie Boys – Sabotage

The AWESOME! page has random music stuff that I think is cool. You never know what you will find here!

In my continuing series of classic music videos, here’s another of my favorites. The Beastie Boys were one of the early hip hop/rap rock bands to break into the mainstream, getting significant airplay and MTV exposure as early as 1987. When their fourth album was released in 1994, it contained the single Sabotage. While the song itself was only a modest hit, the video was huge. It was a parody of 1970s crime drama TV – shows like Hawaii Five-O, Starsky and Hutch, and the like. The band members play fictional good guys, out to catch the bad guys on the streets. If you grew up watching these shows, the video will make you laugh until you cry!

It was directed by the famous film and TV director Spike Jonze. The video was nominated for 5 MTV Video awards, although it did not win any of them.

Sit back and enjoy this flashback to the 70s TV world of good guys vs bad guys street crime!
