Valley Girl – Frank & Moon Zappa

The MARK’S VINTAGE VINYL page features something from Mark’s collection of recordings from over the years. Most of it is on vinyl – hence the name – though there will be a few entries from his CDs (remember those?).

Valley Girl, by Frank & Moon Zappa

  • 12 ” single released in June 1982.
  • The song was written by both Frank and his 14 year old daughter Moon Unit Zappa. Moon provided much of the content, using “Valspeak” phases that she had heard “at parties, bar mitzvahs and the Galleria.”
  • The song is the only Zappa song to make it into the Billboard Hot 100 Top 40, peaking at #32. It was nominated for a Grammy award.
  • Despite Zappa’s lack of commercial success, he still is widely acclaimed. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995 (2 years after his death), and he received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. Rolling Stone ranked him at #71 on their 100 Greatest Artists of All Time list.
  • Here’s the hilarious song. “Gag me with a spoon, barf out, grody to the max!”
