Fragile – Yes

The MARK’S VINTAGE VINYL page features something from Mark’s collection of recordings from over the years. Most of it is on vinyl – hence the name – though there will be a few entries from his CDs (remember those?).

Fragile, by Yes

  • Fourth studio album by the British progressive rock band Yes, released in 1971.
  • I fell for Yes early. I remember listening to the Fragile album with my friend Paul when I was in 8th grade. The sound was so big – amazing keyboards/synthesizers by Rick Wakeman, amazing vocals by Jon Anderson, kickass guitar by Steve Howe, throbbing bass by Chris Squire and driving drums by Bill Bruford. This album got me hooked on Progressive Rock.
  • These musicians are among the best ever. Bruford is #16 on Rolling Stone’s Greatest Drummer list. Howe is #69 on Rolling Stone’s Greatest Guitarist list. Squire is #26 on BassPlayer’s Greatest Bassist list. DigitalDreamDoor.com puts Wakeman at #2 on their list of the Greatest Rock Keyboardists. And DigitalDreamDoor.com puts Anderson at #107 on their list of the Greatest Male Rock Singers.
  • Yes was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year. At the ceremony, they performed Roundabout, their signature hit from this album. Chris Squire died in 2015 of leukemia, so the bass guitarist at the ceremony was Geddy Lee of Rush – what a perfect substitute! Here is that performance – WOW!
