- Born in Augusta GA in 1960. She moved to Nashville when she was young, and considers it her home.
- Grant is one of the most successful artists in Contemporary Christian Music. She also has had success in crossover to pop music. She is known as “The Queen of Christian Pop.”
- She signed her first record contract just before her 16th birthday. Her first album, titled Amy Grant, was released in 1978 before her high school graduation.
- Her fourth album, Age To Age, released in 1982, was her breakthrough album. It is the first Christian album to be certified platinum, with sales over 1 million records.
- She didn’t stop there – she’s had 3 other studio albums go platinum (including her biggest seller, Heart In Motion in 1991, that sold over 5 million copies), as well as 2 Christmas albums and 1 compilation album that have gone platinum. In total, she has released 15 studio albums, 3 live albums, 4 Christmas albums, and 94 singles. Several of the singles have been in collaboration with other artists, including Michael W. Smith, Vince Gill (who also is her husband), Keb’ Mo, and James Taylor.
- Her duet with Peter Cetera in 1986, The Next Time I Fall, hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her song Baby Baby, written by Grant for her newborn baby, also hit #1 as a pop hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1991.
- She has won 6 Grammy Awards in the Gospel category, and Heart In Motion/Baby Baby were nominated for album, song and record of the year in 1992.
- She continues to release music today, as well as tour. She will be playing concerts on an Alaska Cruise this July – sounds like fun.
- Check out her video for Baby Baby. Obviously, her handlers decided the video should NOT be about her newborn daughter! This video and song have a definite 90s pop vibe going for it.
