The AWESOME! page has random music stuff that I think is cool. You never know what you will find here!
Songs that are covers of previously released songs are commonplace in the music world. Some of the biggest hits of all time were songs that were done earlier, sometimes nearly as famous, and sometimes totally obscure. Some songs are covered dozens of times by different artists, in different styles. For example, California Dreamin’, originally by the Mama’s & the Papa’s, has been recorded by at least 44 other artists since its release in 1965 – including one by Alvin and the Chipmunks.
Periodically, on the AWESOME! page, I’ll highlight a song that is famous along with one or two covers that you may not be as familiar with.
Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car, from her debut album released in 1988, tells the story of a working poor woman and her man, with a dream to escape poverty. There have been over 20 covers of the song since then. Watch the original version, and then versions by Jonas Blue (2015), and Justin Bieber (2016).
Love Tracy’s version. I used to play that CD in my 6th grade classroom. Maybe just the song “Talkin’ Bout A Revolution”…
One of my favorite songs Mark-not necessarily for the lyrical message but it reminds me of road trips to Milwaukee with my dad. Some of my first memories of music include Tracy Chapman.
